Understanding the NDIS

NDIS gives you funding for a whole range of different disability services and supports.

How My Living Options Can Help You Understand the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding for eligible people with disability to access supports and services that help them live more independently, work towards their goals and stay connected with their community.

At My Living Options, we can help you understand how the NDIS works and guide you through your options so you can make informed decisions about the support that is right for you.

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS is an Australian Government scheme that provides funding to eligible people with permanent and significant disability. It is designed to give participants greater choice and control over the supports they receive and help them achieve their personal goals.

Your NDIS plan is based on your individual circumstances, needs and goals. The supports included in your plan can help you build skills, increase independence and participate more fully in everyday life.

What Does the NDIS Offer?

With an individualised NDIS plan, you may have:

  • More choice about the supports and services you receive
  • Greater control over how your supports are delivered
  • Flexibility to use your funding for supports that align with your goals and needs
  • Goal-focused support designed to help you build independence and achieve meaningful outcomes
  • Ongoing support that can adapt as your circumstances, needs and goals change

Who Can Access the NDIS?

To access the NDIS, you generally need to meet certain eligibility requirements.

Age

You must be under 65 years old when you apply for the NDIS. Children under 9 may receive support through the NDIS Early Childhood Approach.

Residency

You must generally live in Australia and be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Special Category Visa holder.

Disability

You must have a permanent and significant disability that substantially affects your ability to take part in everyday activities and means you are likely to require support from the NDIS for your lifetime.

Eligibility requirements can be complex, so if you’re unsure whether you may be eligible, it’s worth seeking further information.

Learn more about NDIS eligibility on the official NDIS website.
